OPS Solutions Embarks on MEDC-Sponsored Trade Mission to China

Last month, I had the distinct pleasure of representing OPS Solutions on a nine-day trade mission to China.

Organized and led by Governor Snyder and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), my trip consisted of one-on-one meetings with more than 40 prospective manufacturing partners in several major Chinese cities – including Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai.

I’m still sorting through all the business cards!

China is an appealing market for OPS Solutions due to their robust and ever-expanding manufacturing sector. Not knowing what to expect on this trade mission, I was surprised by the overwhelming interest and excitement surrounding our innovative augmented reality technology.

Just about every company I visited acknowledged the benefit of deploying Light Guide Systems in their operations, including a number of our current US customers with factories in China!

After meeting with several businesses across a variety of industries – from automotive and electronics to solar – I learned that they share largely the same manufacturing challenges we have in the States.

Chinese factories have adopted numerous Western manufacturing practices, like scoreboards, metrics and the establishment of visual workspaces, but there are still many processes done manually in China that would otherwise be automated in other parts of the world.

There is potential for astronomical growth if more companies in China used Light Guide Systems to better train and develop such a large workforce for consistency, efficiency and safety.

During the trip, I discovered China’s Smart Manufacturing 2025 initiative, a government program that invests billions of dollars in identifying and deploying innovative manufacturing technologies to help create and secure jobs. Light Guide Systems plays directly into the program’s philosophy—a fact that might even lead us to new partnerships and future development in the region.

I would like to thank Governor Snyder and the MEDC for giving OPS Solutions the valuable opportunity to attend this China trade mission, and for assembling a completely customized agenda to fit our business needs. This trip will definitely help drive our export sales to China.
