Streamlining Mass Customization in Automotive Manufacturing with Projected AR
The mass customization demanded in the automotive industry means that manufacturers must have optimized processes, streamlining them for any and all variation. LightGuide’s projected augmented reality (AR) work instructions streamline complex manual manufacturing processes by guiding workers in real time and enabling them to complete tasks without moving between lines.
In this video, the operator accomplishes this by choosing between a four-wheel drive and a rear-wheel drive brake hub assembly. Based on this choice, standardized work instructions then are projected onto the operator’s work surface. Other connected factory tools, including 3D vision sensors and cameras, provide real-time feedback and capture data. This ensures that tasks are completed correctly, alerting the operator of any potential defects throughout the process.
